Recently I was watching my DVD of Ren & Stimpy. On one of the documentaries John K sez:
“I go back to the old tradition of comedy, where you work on the personalities of the characters and then just put them in any situation you want.”
As a bonus, Eddie Fitzgerald says this:
“John has a philosophy of never repeating a drawing… never repeating a gag.”
That simple rule made Ren & Stimpy look completely fresh every time. Entirely unlike all the other animated shows who pay gangs of supervising artists to make everybody slavishly follow the model sheets.
