I heard today about the passing of Ernest Borgnine. I often enjoyed him on the TV show “McHale’s Navy” and I watched his Oscar winning performance in “Marty” because I wanted to see him do something different. He was a very successful character actor who proved he could be a leading man. I didn’t realize he was the voice of Mermaidman on Sponge Bob Square Pants. But what really endeared me to Ernest was his regular participation in Milwaukee’s Great Circus Parade, dressed as a clown. He wasn’t known for physical comedy, but he certainly appreciated it.
